Introduction to Creative Studies - Week 1

Here goes the very first lecture class of the Creative Studies. Hmmmph, so, it’s all about creativity, a thing which is so complicated yet so important.

Well, when we consider the importance of creativity we are apt to think of it only in the context of art. Though important, art is only a small part of creativity. We use creativity in every aspect of our lives, everyday. The lecture also mentioned that the education system nowadays is actually destroying human’s creativity in a slow way, I pretty agree with that. They tell you why instead of letting you think of it. You see, those geniuses like Thomas Edison, Albert Einstein, they are actually an “idiot” during their school times, to be said as those without knowledge, but is it really true? No, they have things that normal people don’t have it, they have eyes which see things different, and they have minds which think differently. I just want to show that, creativity is far more important than knowledge, and far more in need than knowledge, it creates knowledge actually. Through the humorous joke of the lecturer, “No Eye Deer”, which sarcasm those who never think and give the answer as “No Idea”, I get to know that he is actually asking everyone to think, doesn’t matter that the answer will be right or wrong, just think and give a piece of your mind. Another thing is that we need to think differently, we already learnt that in Media Appreciation subject which is known as “Paradigm Shift”, this will be a practical part of it then, is just like the “Upside-down Cat” which shown by the lecturer during the lecture.

A few words for our blog title: Imagination makes everything. So why does it says so? As for me, imagination stands a very important place in terms of creativity. As it was said like this by Albert Einstein, “Logic will get you from A to B. Imagination will take you everywhere,” we know that how powerful an imagination can be. In fact, imagination is a creative power that is necessary for inventing an instrument, designing a dress or a building, painting a picture or writing a book. Another quote from Albert Einstein: “Imagination is the beginning of creation. You imagine what you desire, you will what you imagine and at last you create what you will.” The creative power of imagination has an important role in the achievement of success in any field. What we imagine with faith and feelings comes into being. It is the power beyond creative visualization, positive thinking and affirmations. Imagination makes it possible to experience a whole world inside the mind. It gives the ability to look at any situation from a different point of view, and enables one to mentally explore the past and the future. The truth is, imagination has no limit. What if Thomas Edison never imagines a thing (bulb) which can light up the night? He will never create it, and we will be living in dark during night until now. “Problems cannot be solved by the same level of thinking that created them,” another Einstein’s quote.

Therefore, I conclude what I learnt for the first lesson of Creative Studies by this sentence:
“Think differently from "361 angles"; imagine just whatever you can, before you do anything.”
